More about The Nursery (From their biography)

90’s kids who like pop music, distorted synths and pushing the boundaries of what they’re confined to. The Nursery was started by Alexander Pulec (ex-Ruby Spirit) and Victor Ess in 2013 inspired by a steady diet of early-80’s electropop and mid-70’s post punk records. With a perspective grounded in the post-internet world, the two decided there was no reason to constrict their music into any strictly defined genre. Feeling free and inspired to push forward, the band teamed up with synth player Jared Roth and drummer Josh English from New York and started writing with a post-modern pop sensibility.

“Dreamlike”, “dramatic”, “vibrant” and “anthemic” are all words that have been used to describe the band’s hard-to-define sound. Lyrically spinning conversational quips that tap into the human condition of living in 2016, exploring life’s contradictions while getting pulled between pure joy and sheer dread.

Alexander, who pens the majority of the songs, spent the years of his youth making sounds on a 2-track cassette tape deck that belonged to the family that was used as a home karaoke machine. Equipped with only one microphone, he gradually gathered more and more instruments and churned out one experimental recording after another. Some were good, some were awful and most were just noise. The isolated process led to eclectic creations spanning from distorted, voice only pieces to freakish, fake TV show themes. Victor had his roots in experimental electronic music, often made with wacky homemade contraptions and noise makers.

For an era obsessed with youth, we all sure love poisoning ourselves. Whether you’re being born, or just about to die, we’re transitioned in and out of existence though the Nursery.
